My First Kill

Lying down in a pool of blood
The red mixing with the cold, white snow
And gently floating like a boat on a flood
Lies a body carrying a face that I know
Pale blue eyes stare up at me
The dance of life lost in them
While one finger points accusingly
At the remorseless killer that I am
It was a crime all right
One committed on the spur of the moment
As we got into a heated fight
All because of a silly comment
It was the first time I had killed
But I knew it wouldn’t be the last
For this was something in which I was skilled
Given my troubled past
As I gazed down at the body with the eyes of a stranger
I knew there was no turning back
And though the face would haunt me forever

I know I belong to the dark
